Bastille Day at Fou Frog

Posted in Food, Music with tags , , on July 15, 2012 by David McInerny

This weekend marked the second year that our cooking club attended the Bastille Day Follies at the Fou Frog restaurant in the River Market section of Kansas City. You would never know from the unassuming exterior that four-star cuisine resides within. On Saturday night, a large, hungry crowd resided within as well.

For the Bastille Day celebration, the staff works in costume, entertains the diners from a makeshift stage, and is allowed to drink with the guests while they work. One moment Marie Antoinette is taking your order for braised lamb shank with cous cous, and the next moment “Marie” is singing “I Feel Pretty” while pouring free champagne throughout the room and puffing a cigar. Viva la Revolution!

The house cabernet was more than sufficient. The escargot was a garlic and butter delight. The entertainment was surpassingly talented, and we’ll be making reservations for 2013!
