You’re Welcome

Last month I described attending the last Rolling Stones show in London in August, 2007. I pondered whether it was the end of the boys’ touring career, and expressed gratitude that at least I had seen the final hurrah.

Then came rumors that the band has been seen filing into a rehearsal studio. Sure, sure – that rumor gets floated around at least once a year. Then the Stones announced yet another greatest hits package (yawn). Then a documentary of the band’s 50 years, Crossfire Hurricane, was premiered (hmm, interesting). Then last week a new single, “Doom & Gloom,” gets released. OK, I’m sitting up straight and paying attention now. And I’m listening to the new song every day (which is excellent – think “You Got Me Rocking” from Voodoo Lounge if you haven’t heard it yet). I resolved to check the website every day for show information.

Patience was not required. Four dates were announced this morning – 2 in London and 2 in Newark, and it was the first thing I saw when I woke up. Image my wife and I assuming battle stations at 6am, slinging coffee and checking our calendars and financial resources, still fully bed-headed and clad in robes, and deciding what show(s) we can attend, setting alarms on our phones to make sure we’re looking for tickets the moment they go on sale. I’m trying not to think too much about the article I read today that estimates that 37 people will compete for every ticket available for the 4 shows.

Clearly, though, Mick and Keef saw my previous blog and decided to prove me wrong, and for that I’m grateful. Mick even hinted today that there may be additional shows added. I’m so excited, I think another studio album is within the realm of reason some time in 2013. Regardless how this all plays out, you can thank me later.
